Philosophy of Treatment
Perhaps you are looking for perspective on a conflict or problem. Or, maybe you are seeking relief from suffering. Perhaps you are trying to stop a cycle or break free from a family pattern. Maybe you don’t know how to articulate what’s bothering but you know you need someone to help you. Together, we will work to make our way from murkiness to clarity.
I believe that at its core, therapy is about learning to understand yourself. It’s about exploring where you came from and determining where you want to go. It’s about feeling like you “make sense” to yourself.
I also believe that positive change only truly occurs in a safe, intimate space where your feelings are respected. I work hard to foster this environment. Together, as a team, we will seek to understand the origins of your challenges, and create a path for you to become the person you want to be.
I have trained in a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities, such as psychodynamic, solution focused, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, supportive therapy, interactive/play therapy, and EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing). In my practice, I tend towards an integrative approach, combining aspects of the different modalities. Together we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and actions to place them in the larger context of your life history. We will seek to understand both the conscious and unconscious motivations behind the choices you make in your life. And, we will work on applying what you learn about your history to approach challenging present day issues, developing new tools to help you move forward in your life.
